So ashamed that I haven't updated my blog since Father's Day. Wish I had a good reason for it, but basically just lazy and swamped with taking care of my kids all summer. Still when something is a priority you always make time for it.
I guess I'll just catch you up on my life since I had my little blogger vacay. All is well. I'm continuing to teach both children's and adult yoga classes. As always I still am in need of more work so I'm continually looking for more opportunities and sending out resumes. I really enjoy teaching adult yoga in gym settings because the people that take class seem to really be appreciative of my teaching. I firmly believe that you have to honor your own process and that no every pose is for every body. I'm constantly encouraging and reassuring my students that building their yoga practice is a practice. You don't go into class and put your leg behind you head on the first day. It's a practice and a process. My students seem to really appreciate my approach and that makes me feel great that they are having an enjoyable, stress free yoga experience. I also like working in gyms because they offer childcare and that is so essential to my life right now. It is nice to focus on teaching and not worry about your entire paycheck paying a sitter or if your kids are okay. I like having them a few doors down from where I am.
My children's classes are going well. I'm a guest artist at a local school in my community. It is a year round school so I have been with them since July. I teach 4 classes a week. I've been working on designing my own curriculum so I've been spending a lot of time planning out each lesson and using various resources. The curriculum I'm designing is not something I'm planning to turn into a book or start my own yoga movement, but it is just for me and perhaps my dedicated blog followers. I will tell you more about that soon and share some of the resources I've found. It has certainly been trial and error. I've spent hours preparing a lesson and then you get into class and it's a total bomb for one reason or another. So I go into my little notebook and make adjustments for the next time. It's nice to have a base so that now when I get an invitation to another school, I've already done all the work and planning.
As for regular old summer plans, it has been pretty quiet. The kids and I spent lots of time at the pool and outside. No vacay's this year. Money is pretty tight. Maybe next summer. For now, I'm happy school is back in session. My daughter is in first grade and my son is in preschool. He is able to come with me when I teach the kids classes. He is my "assistant". Basically that means that he likes to be silly and make the kids laugh and then yell at them they they are being too loud. Some assistant. But he is cute and he does enjoy participating in the classes with the kids and the students have been great about helping him and incorporating him in to activities.
So that's my life in a nutshell. What about you? Hope all is well for everyone. Until next time, love and lollipops.
