Kids versus Adults

I love teaching children's yoga!! However as I continue to grow and expand as a yoga teacher, and as my bills begin to increase I knew I needed to expand my business and foray into teaching big people (AKA adults) I recently became a certified YogaFit Level 1 instructor. This means that I'm able to teach a beginning/intermediate adult yoga class. This past Saturday I had my first experience teaching adult students through Yoga in the Park. I taught a full length Vinyassa Flow yoga class and it went great if I do say so myself. Everyone keeps asking me "so now which do you like better teaching kids or teaching adults?" I still like teaching children and I really enjoyed my experience teaching adults. It's almost like comparing frogs and cats. Yes they are both animals but other than that completely different. So are kids and adults, yes they are both humans but that's about it. A children's yoga class and an adult class are extremely different. Each group comes with their own set of needs and desires which as a teacher you have to be aware of. For my kids sometimes they come in and I can just feel that they are going to want to play more games than move through asanas (poses). For the adults maybe you feel that they need more breath work or a longer shavasana (rest). I must confess I did enjoy the fact that the adults came up afterward and thanked me for class!!! Maybe I can teach the little ones to do that. At the same time, maybe I can teach the big people to smile more during class. The little ones always give me tons of smiles and giggles. Each group is different, unique, and great to teach.

If you are a local, in the spirit of karma yoga I'm doing FREE YOGA for Teachers beginning June 12. The class will be from 3-4pm on Sunday afternoons through. Come on out to Patanjali's Place and get your Vinyassa Flow on!!!! Until next time, love and lollipops!!
