Sorry it has been a few days since my last post. I love being an independent contractor because I can make my own schedule and decide which jobs I take. However, it also means my schedule is all over the place and I take all sorts of job. The last few days I've been preparing to teach a week long reading class to middle school students. I'm a girl of many talents besides yoga. I'm also a certified K-6 teacher. So this morning I put on my serious teacher hat and go work with middle school kids (somebody hold me). Don't worry though, I will be starting each class with a bit of yoga!!
Last time I posted I taught you all about the Yamas or moral restraints. Today we will focus on the Niyamas or 5 observances. Here we go.
Niyamas: The 5 Observances
Sauca-purity
Santosa- contentment
Tapas-zeal- austerity
Svadhyaya- self-study
Isvara-pranidhana- devotion to higher power
These are of course part of the 8 limbs of yoga that will help you to grow as a person and as a citizen of the world. As a follow up to my last posting, I would like to say that I have made an attempt to really work on my brahmacarya
(moderation) and aparigraha(non-hoarding) in terms of shopping. It is silly but it is a struggle I think lots of people have. In an attempt of svadhyaya(self-study) I've tried to analyze why I've been shopping. Tune in tomorrow and maybe I'll tell you what I've learned from myself about myself. Until next time, love and lollipops.
