Naturally when you think of yoga you think quiet, still meditation and gentle relaxing poses. When you think of children you think of everything except quiet, still or relaxing. That is the beauty of yoga. Yoga was designed to meet you where you are. Can you sit still and meditate for hours? Great! Can you sit still and meditate for 0.5 seconds? That's great too. Wherever you are, yoga welcomes you and of course that includes children. The benefits of yoga for children are just incredible. I could write an entire thesis on the benefits of children's yoga and why it should be in every school around the world, but I will refrain. Here are some bite sized nuggets that you can chew on.
Yoga Can Give Children the Ability to:
- Increase strength,flexibility and coordination
- Build self-esteem
- Develop a positive body image
- Improve focus and concentration
- Practice cooperation and compassion
- Cultivate healthy habits
- Regulate emotions
- Raise self-awareness
- Have fun in a non-competitive, supportive environment
Now be honest, don't you wish you could have been exposed to yoga when you were a child? The benefits are enormous and that is one of the goals of this blog, to bring awareness to a small corner of yoga that people are just now beginning to realize existed. Until next time friends, love and lollipops.
